The future lies in our hands.
What's different about me?
You may have heard from your parents that you should take extra care of yourself and be careful. And that they said something about a "heart defect". But what does that mean?
There are quite a few children born with a congenital heart defect (the abbreviation for this is CHD). Almost every 100th child that is born has one - right from birth. In other words: In a school with four parallel classes on average there is one child with a heart defect - so this is not so rare.
Your heart functions differently than in people with a healthy heart. And sometimes it even works only partially or not at all. Then an operation is necessary, sometimes even more than one.
